What is Art Therapy?

When words are not enough or challenging, Creative Arts Therapists be alongside you using creative processes, materials and modes as a primary language to assist you in making sense of your life.

They won’t interpret or diagnose you or your making, rather facilitate a safe, nurturing, non-judgmental space where your making and reflection processes may improve your own self-awareness, explore emotions, patterns and identify preferred ways of being.

My approach is collaborative and multi-modal, offering access to a variety of materials, techniques and modalities such as mark making, collage, writing, prose, sculpting, drama, sound, movement and play to express missed opportunities to be seen and heard.

What Art Therapy is not

It may involve choosing materials and techniques familiar or unfamiliar but it is not ‘arts and crafts’ nor is it an art class.

It is not product oriented, rather process oriented. Creative skills are not necessary, rather it draws from the inherit creativity anchored within us.

In a private session your needs are at the centre. You move at your pace and skill level within safe boundaries as the therapist, listens, reflects and may co-create with your experiencing.
